As a student researcher, I aim to investigate and shed light on the issues that residents in Harlem face. The community in Harlem faces several challenges that I would like to address. Firstly the people in Harlem have higher rates of chronic health conditions. The cause of this can be attributed to several factors, one of them being the lack of access to quality foods for affordable prices. Another factor might be the limited access to quality healthcare services. Additionally, there is an issue of ethnic inequality. In comparison to the rest of new york city, Harlem has a lot more people facing unemployment and financial hardships. People struggle with rising housing costs and limited access to affordable housing options. Students face disparities in education with lower graduation rates and less opportunity for higher education. By shedding light on these issues I can raise awareness and improve the lives of people in Harlem. I want to examine the history of the systemic factors that cause these inequalities. I want to get to the source of these issues that plague my community. I have spent my whole life living in Harlem and have experienced some of these issues myself. Hopefully, by examining the root of these issues in Harlem I can understand the systemic issues of society.
